Beautiful to contemplate how God gets “dusty” - thank you for that compelling image!

Thank you for sharing this. It is a scene in scripture that I didn’t quite get, but that God pulling us closer to reassure and comfort us, like we do our own children at times, ends with us pushing and struggling—wrestling with him. You shed a new light on this passage for me. 💕

It's also fascinating how in the picture above it looks like the all-encompassing hug of a parent containing the small body of its child who is flailing and lashing about. God wants us to wrestle with him, wrestling hard, because we are still engaging with him. It's when we refuse to wrestle, refuse to bring ourselves to God that it breaks His heart.

How poignant it is to stop and think that when we have these moments with God, He allows it and He is not the one actively wrestling but it si us and He carries and shelters us through that, the way I do with my children and Iris. I do love the child's faith Sarah. A member of our church died recently and Iris said it was sad that he was not here and playing the piano as he used to. But then she smiled and said he was playing music in Heaven and that would be so special. Bless Samuel and bless the children as they teach us. That picture is remarkable.

Hello!! I wanted to say that a while ago I read Book Girl. It was SO GOOD!!! Your writing style is amazing, and I love how you incorporate God into everything.

It's also really cool that you share big questions with your kids. Even if they don't know how to answer them sometimes, it teaches their minds to dwell on greater things.

Anyways, thank you for this post and for all the books you write! I'm definitely going to read more of them!

Have a great day! God bless!

Thank you for this! I relate so much. My pastor/husband went on to Heaven very suddenly last January, just before his 51st birthday. This last year has had a good amount of wrestling. It is cleansing for sure.

“To wrestle with God is just to be held by Love.” 😭🤯 Reminds me of the conversation between your brother Nathan & your mom that I just read about yesterday in their beautiful memoir, Different. 🩷

This is so beautiful and simple! I never thought of it this way either. A child’s simple understanding is wise to our adult complications.
