Do you ever read little-known authors with hearts akin to yours? I am one such author. I wonder if you’d be interested in poking into my duology—especially the second book, which is my favorite, and just released yesterday. It contains the heart of the story (sanctification), while the first is its skeletal structure (coming out of the world into salvation). The first is rather dry until the end. The second is covered in blood and tears.
I realize how it might be difficult for an OCD mind, reading out of order (and the first does slide into parts of the second in special ways, especially at the end of book two), but one can return to the past, when it comes to books, and it takes an evangelist to linger with the stumbling of those who haven't quite managed to lay down their old man. :)
Anyway, if the Lord leads you to pursue a look into UK’s Amazon, its title is, The Crèche Catcher. It’s a pro-life story. Well, better put, a story of God’s heart, regarding life, and the calling of one man to protect the lives of the ‘breathless ones,’ as they return to earth.
Sarah, This is wonderful post. Some of these are new to me, some are familiar, a few I've read, and all look encouraging and hopeful. I'm looking forward to reading through this list. ~Jenny
Thank you so much for this. I really needed to hear the gentle beauty that you share when you share books. I’ve picked up a few of the books on this list. Happy Birthday lovely lady. You are truly a sharer of beauty.
Oh the ever- growing stack of books in, what my professor once called, my “reading deficiency “ list. I think I need a thousand lifetimes to get to all of it! Thank you for sharing your insights. It was most valuable to me.
You are one of the best baby- jiggling readers I have ever heard. Blessings on you.
This was so enjoyable to read, and I'm excited for when I can watch the video...which will most probably happen with MY almost-eight-month-old in my lap! 😊👊 I'm excited to add several of these to my TBR...
It was fun to see "Gentian Hill" mentioned as I'm currently in the middle of it and really enjoying it, but it's a Goudge you don't often hear mentioned.
Robert MacFarlane’s Underland was one of my top five favorite books a couple of years ago. I’m ordering Landmarks and The Old Paths under cover of using them for our homeschool next year.😂
Oh what a luscious post. What could be better than Sarah Clarkson's FAVORITE books of all time?!?! While I have read a few of these, I am immediately adding the rest to my list. Happy belated birthday, Sarah. Thank you for helping all of us fall more in love with books that inspire faith and imagination and heroic virtues. So appreciate your beautiful soul!
Happy Birthday! Here’s to 40 more (at least!) years of reading and writing. I, too, have been shaped by Wendell Berry, Madeleine L’Engle and Elizabeth Goudge. I also enjoy Malcolm Guite although I just found him last year. Thank you for inspiring me with new titles for my ever growing “to be read” list. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Not sure how it came to me but I am now subscribed. Blessings to you!
Happy birthday Sarah! This was a delight to listen to! I always name one of the books you mentioned toward the end, For the Life of the World, as one of my watershed books. It was truly life-changing and, I think, partially responsible or at least very helpful for keeping me in the Orthodox Church of my youth.
Other watershed books for me: Courage to Pray by Anthony Bloom and Brothers Karamazov, which I read about the same time as Schmemann. All were so helpful during my faith crisis. Karamazov played a role for me similar to how you described The Scent of Water. I was struggling with serious depression and trying to figure out how Christ could be present within that. The grace and compassion embodied in this book were truly life-changing and helped me see “the beauty at back of the world” as you marvelously put it.
Sarah, you are such a blessing! A well spoken, radiant and peaceful blessing! And yes of course you can giggle a baby and read aloud at the same time! Thank you for sharing this!💕 Cheryl Chase
Lovely, as always. Thank you, Sarah.

I was so impressed by the baby-jiggling reading as well!
